| A+ Transcender |
Before you the wrong idea I want to be perfectly clear. I like Transcender’s. I like them as a company; I enjoy my e-mails with some of their employees. I think they make a fantastic product. Like a lot of people I wish they didn't cost as much as they do.
In the past people have asked me if I like them so much why don't I go to work for them? I'm not to say the thought never crossed my mind. And the reality is instead in some areas I produce directly competing work. The natural question of course becomes then what do I do that they don't do?
There are a number of differences between what Tcat Houser and AlphaGeekProductions does that we believe is quite unique.
I'll take the first one that shows up most often. Cost. Yes, they are on the high side of the price range. I guess their attitude is, “you get to pay for.” OK well maybe I'm being silly. I happen to think there is more to the world than money. The original Volkswagen certainly was not the most expensive car in the world and certainly seemed to do the job. I have intentionally made sure that the pricing on my CompTIA training materials is as low as it can be and still pay the bills. There is an old joke about losing money on every sale but making it up in volume ;-). That's the route I've chosen.
There quality, especially in Microsoft training is in fact excellent. I only do one thing. Create CompTIA training material. Looking at my work versus what they offer in the same arena and frankly I think I have a superior product.
Test engines are another area where we are vastly different. They run on Windows, period.
My work can be run on a LAN or a WAN with up to 25 test candidates running the same set of questions at a time. This lets an instructor get instant feedback on both how well they have done delivering a module as well as identifying particularly strong or weak students, instantly. There is no one else I know of that gives you this ability.
Flexibility: The work done by myself and my team is also available as questions and answers in PDF format which includes the very numerous hotlinks to web sites drilling down to specific additional information. Most other companies try to pretend they are the end-all and be all of data on the topic. My approach is 180° different. I’ll pick the topic apart and make sure you have precise web links for further research should be so inclined to want to know more. So it's possible to take the study guides my team creates and load them onto your Palm Pilot. This lets you be productive in your studies where you have less time than would take to boot up a Windows-based computer.
Licensing: As far as I can tell this is the most liberal licensing policy on the planet. One computer, 1000 computers, 10,000 computers, we don't care. The licensing is such that you can load your study materials on as many computers as you are personally using. We license you not the machine you're running. The logic is simple really. I want to make sure you have no excuse for not studying ;-). --- Tcat
